Andy Fleming: Hi Andy, for DOB of applicants is it possible to allow us to enter 0/0/YEAR if you don't know actual DOB of the customer but know their age? When we are doing our initial fact find, we find some customers are not ready to give their DOB in these early stages, but are happy to say how old they are. If we could enter the year, but no day/month, we could use this info for servicing, and then add the day/month in when the customer decides to proceed. By allowing 0/0 it would be immediately obvious this is not the true DOB. (ie. 0/0/1975).

Melissa Horton: Hi Melissa. I fear not - the date fields will be validated automatically, and having zeroes in the first day or month fields would fail the validation - in the same way it wouldn't let you enter 1/a/2020 or 31/2/2020.
That's all built-in stuff which we're unlikely to be able to easily override (plus there's potentially downstream implications).
In terms of a workaround, best bet would be to use 1/1/YYYY and assume only a small percentage of people are actually born Jan 1st?

Andy Fleming: I thought it might be too tricky. Thanks for letting me know!
Andy Fleming
Melissa Horton: No worries, you're welcome :)

Thanks Melissa Horton - we had a lot of feedback in M5 about the entered ages being out of date as time progressed, and that a DOB would be better as it would update dynamically.
If we calculate and display the current age from the DOB would that get you what you need?
Allowing entry of both would introduce the possibility of inconsistencies in the data, and if both are entered how do we know which one should be used?
If you know the age, I’d suggest entering an approximate DOB as you mentioned - I suspect that is the easiest workaround and will have the benefit of updating the ages automatically if you come back to the record down the track.

Andy Fleming: With the children I would like to see the ability to log a name next to the DOB, either a feature to convert them to a "Contact" further down the track.
Andy Fleming
Laurie Anderson: That seems a sensible addition - I'll add an improvement request for you.
Thanks for the idea/feedback - much appreciated!
